OUR ORIGIN

Coquina Collective began unexpectedly - right in our own backyard.

Coquina is formed along Florida's northeast coast when countless shells carried by waves of ancient living oceans are broken down, carried by waves, and slowly fused together by pressure, minerals, and time. This process takes thousands of years to millions of years. Nothing about it is rushed. Nothing is forced.

In St. Augustine, coquina is more than a material—it is history. Quarried locally, it was used to build some of the oldest structures in the United States, including the Castillo de San Marcos. Its shell-rich composition absorbed cannon fire rather than shattering, offering protection through resilience rather than strength alone. It endured because it was layered, imperfect, and patient.

That story resonated deeply with us.

We began admiring each individual shell fragment—pieces shaped by water, weather, and time—each carrying its own history. No two are alike. Each one tells a quiet story of where it has been and what it has endured.

Coquina Collective was born from this discovery. Our jewelry honors the beauty of time-worn materials and the meaning found in slow creation. Each piece is formed by time and worn with intention—a reminder of resilience, connection, and the strength gathered along the way.
